The Expedition Africa Ltd trip was so much more than just a safari! From the moment of pick up at the Mwanda airport, hands down best tour ever, due entirely to our guides Emmanuel (Manny) and James, who became like family.
We spent two days in Mwanda and Lake Victoria, learning first hand and dancing with members of the Sukuma tribe (largest of 120 tribes), visiting and canoeing with members of the Lamadi fishing village, bringing supplies and singing with students of the Zakiri School. Our sojourn through the vast Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater (do not miss!) and Lake Mañara surpassed every expectation, getting up close and personal with every one of the big five in the thick of migration, really experiencing each animal’s singular and group behavior, surrounded by unimaginable beauty and wildlife of every type, both day and night. Nights spent around the campfire, and glamping in the bush were unbelievably relaxing, listening to the sounds of nature, sharing stories with other trekkers and gazing at the starry sky. Visiting with the Masai tribe in their village in the Ngorongoro, learning about their traditions and nomadic lifestyle, was also a cultural highlight.
Manny who led four of us in our awesome vehicle, was an expert driver, animal tracker, knew exactly how to position us for viewing, and was extremely funny and full of stories. He anticipated our every need throughout the drives (including finding a place in the middle of nowhere to blow up two soccer balls that I brought for the school!!!) and we all got to know him as a close friend. Thank you Manny!
James, and Majaliwa gogo owner company was a very thoughtful driver, an expert tracker, photographer assistant and very patient with the second vehicle of four guests. Thank you James!
Each day was a spectacular adventure! Our hotels from Malaika Beach Resort on Lake Victoria, our two glamping Serengeti Wilderness Camps (excellent/separate review), exquisite lunch at the gorgeous Serenity by the Lake (also a hotel), outrageous Ngorongoro Crater view from the Sopa Lodge, and the lovely colonial African Tulip hotel in Arusha were all outstanding. Our insightful trip to the Tengeru Cultural Tourism Programme, directed by Mama Gladness(separate review) in Arusha was another cultural highlight, learning about impactful community development, the Meru tribe culture, hiking thru local village, banana and coffee plantation.
Most of all, hats off to the people of Tanzania, role models for the rest of the world. Multiple cultures and religions all peacefully coexist under the Tanzanian flag. Local people we met at every turn have a remarkable appreciation for their environment, understand the broad social and economic impact of cultural tourism, have a love of life, great sense of humor, are regal and absolutely stunning in their colorful apparel.
    Will definitely be back!

It was amazing. I am glad that we had 5 nights . Safaris were great fun and driving in open sided vehicles a definite bonus.
