10 DAYS HIGHLIGHTS OF UGANDA 2019
DAY 1: Arrival Entebbe – Kampala
On arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our staff who will then transfer you to Kampala for the overnight stay at Cassia Lodge (BB). Transit Time: 1-1.5 hours
DAY 2: Kampala – Lake Mburo NP
After breakfast, depart Kampala for Lake Mburo National Park having a stop to look at the Royal Drum makers, the Equator – where you will be able to stand and be on both hemispheres at once, having a game drive while entering the park arriving in the evening. Lake Mburo is an extension of the Tanzanian Plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best places to find African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike, etc. Lunch will be at the lodge and in the evening, you will take a boat ride to Lake Mburo where you have a high chance of seeing hippos, crocodiles and a variety of bird species, overnight at Arcadia Cottages Mburo (FB). Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner Transit Time: 3-4 hours
DAY 3: Mburo Game Drive – Lake Bunyonyi- Bwindi NP
6 00 am: Enjoy an early morning game drive before dawn to see the animals, namely the Zebras, antelope, topi, buffalos and impala. Return to the lodge for breakfast and Lunch. In the evening, you will drive through the park and continue to Lake Bunyonyi near the Gorilla parks of Bwindi and on arrival, you will check in at Arcadia Cottages Lake Bunyonyi (FB) for Dinner and overnight stay. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. Transit Time 4-5 Hours
DAY 4: Gorilla Tracking – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast at 5.30am, depart to the park headquarters to start tracking at 8.00am; proceed for briefing from park ranger guides before starting your Gorilla trek through steeply forested and beautiful landscape along several animal trails. The climax of the adventure is the opportunity to view the gentle and endangered mountain Gorillas which is an exciting and memorable experience, Picnic lunch to be enjoyed en-route. This may take 3 to 8 hours. Overnight at Arcadia Cottages Lake Bunyonyi (FB)
DAY 5: Bunyonyi – Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park having a game drive while entering the park arriving in the afternoon. Relax around the lodge, after lunch and later go for an early evening game drive. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (FB) Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Transit Time 3-4 Hours
DAY 6: Queen Elizabeth-Game Drive & Boat Ride
6.00 am: Take an early game drive in the park. The animals will still be hunting for prey. This park is home to the famous African wildlife such as lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and hippos, hyenas, hogs antelopes etc. Return to your accommodation for breakfast and rest.
- 30pm: Take the boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a channel that connects Lake Edward to Lake George. Believed to be the biggest Hippo concentration in Africa, this area is also great for bird viewing as well as viewing many other wildlife as they come to take a drink of water. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography. Over 550 species have been spotted and recorded here that include Great White and Pink-Backed Pelicans, Great and Long-Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, African Jacana, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers are. DAY 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Kibale
Have a morning game drive and later head for Kibale Forest National Park. Kibale Forest is a large protected block of rainforest, which has the highest number of primates in Africa such as Chimpanzees, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Red Tailed monkey and Red Colobus.
In the afternoon, you will go for Chimpanzee tracking in the forest, get a chance to see other species like the Grey-Throated Flycatcher, Masked & Black-Capped Apalis, Chestnut-Winged Starling, Orange-Tufted & Tiny Sunbirds, a good infrastructure and variety of interesting activities which makes this a worthwhile destination returning in time for dinner. Dinner and overnight Kibale Primates Lodge (FB), located within the park Transit Time 4-5 Hours
DAY 8: Kibale National Park – Murchison Falls
After an early breakfast, you will transfer to Murchison Fall National Park with Lunch en-route. This is a long drive as you travel north through the Rwenzori’s and the evergreen tea estates before starting the drive through the savanna plains of Murchison Falls NP. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (FB), overlooking the mighty Nile where Hippos wallow in the water and is on the north bank. Transit Time 7-8 Hours
DAY 9: Murchison Falls-Game Drive & Boat Ride
After early cup of coffee at 6:00am, you will go for an early morning game drive to the rolling plains where you have chances of viewing Lions, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Buffalo and Elephant as well as many of the other mammals of the park. For the birders amongst you, these areas support the Secretary Bird, Black Chested Snake Eagle, Tawny and Marshal Eagles Carmine and Swallow Tailed Bee-Eaters, to pick just a few. This is a beautiful drive across Borassus Palm Forest and grassland savannah down to Lake Albert where the Albert Nile heads north to the Sudan.
In the afternoon, go for a boat trip to the foot of Murchison Falls where the Nile thunders through a small 7-meter gap, or down river to the delta where the Nile empties into Lake Albert. This is an experience not to be missed! The banks of the Nile are home to many species. You may see huge Nile Crocodiles, big Pods of Hippos and other wildlife that may come down to drink from the river. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (FB)
DAY 10: Murchison Falls – Kampala Departure
Early game drive to the Top of Murchison Falls where you can have a close look in to the gorge where the Nile squeezes in to a 7 meter gorge dropping 40 meters. The falls are spectacular and thunderous with a beautiful rainbow displayed on sunny days. Later on drive back to Kampala and transfer to the airport for your return flight. Transit Time 5-6 Hours.
